The Rose – Alcatraz, Milano – 26 gennaio 2023
Continua il tour mondiale dei The Rose, che il 26 di gennaio ha avuto una tappa all’Alcatraz di Milano. Tra cori, e rose lanciate sul palco, la band presenta gli inediti del loro nuovo album “Heal”
I fan in fila, denominati “Black Roses”, vengono da ogni parte d’Italia e d’Europa; Jessica, una fan in coda, ci dice che è partita da Ischia il giorno prima, e dopo sole due ore di sonno in Hotel, si è messa in fila con le amiche alle 3:30 del mattino per riuscire a guadagnarsi il posto più vicino al palco. Racconta anche di come ci sia stata solidarietà e aiuto reciproco gli uni con gli altri. Così anche Elena, studentessa universitaria, è in fila al gelido freddo milanese dalle 4:00 del mattino. Più il fatidico momento si avvicina, e più la frenesia si sente nell’aria; davanti alle file girano persone con dei cartelli alla disperata ricerca di biglietti in rivendita, ormai del tutto sold out.
Il concerto
L’Heal Together Tour” è un tour importante per i fan, perché ha segnato la reunion della band in seguito alla loro pausa dovuta alla leva militare. Di conseguenza, l’emozione e la gioia dei Black Roses è palpabile da prima che i ragazzi si esibiscano, tanto da esultare anche quando lo staff sale sul palco!
Sono le 20:40, i The Rose salgono sul palco in fila indiana, e si mettono in postazione tra le grida di gioia della folla. L’allestimento del palco è semplice; infatti l’energia e la grinta dei The Rose non ha bisogno di essere colmata da grandi elementi scenografici durante le esibizioni. Alle spalle c’è uno schermo dal quale vengono riprodotti video, e immagini decorative di rose.
I The Rose aprono il concerto esibendosi con “Definition Of Ugly Is” creando un momento suggestivo fin dall’inizio, anche grazie ai silenzi presenti tra un verso e l’altro della canzone. Il concerto prosegue poi con canzoni allegre e dinamiche, alcune tra le quali: “I don’t know you” e “Candy”; il pubblico balla, canta e si scatena agitando i loro lightstick. Alla fine dell’esibizione di “Red” i The Rose si presentano e salutano i fan, dicendo di quanto siano felici di essere tornati una seconda volta a Milano.
Dopo la classica serenata “sei bellissimo” della Bertè cantata dal pubblico in coro, ricambiato poi dai ragazzi con un “you’re beautiful”, Jaehyeong presenta “See-Saw”:
“Ho scritto questa canzone in un momento in cui ero molto triste e avevo il cuore spezzato” frase che ha fatto dispiacere molti i fan, e lui in risposta li tranquillizza “è tutto ok. Sono riuscito a superare quel momento grazie a voi e ai membri del gruppo. Con questa canzone vorrei ringraziarvi, e raccontare la mia storia.” dice emozionandosi.
Il brano viene eseguito sul palco buio, i ragazzi sono illuminati dai riflettori, e i fan accendono i loro lightstick e le torce dei telefoni, il momento è davvero toccante. Il pubblico è in silenzio ma canta all’unisono solo i versi:
“Hello, it’s me, I’m here
And you’re okay, don’t worry” eseguendo la fan-action alla perfezione, per poi alzare i banner con scritto “let’s heal together”. Tutte le iniziative del concerto sono state organizzate dalla fanbase italiana dei The Rose su Instagram @therose_italia, la quale ha realizzato e annunciato le iniziative sul loro profilo.
Uno dei momenti più entusiasmanti è stato durante “Yes”, i ragazzi si sono messi a ballare sul palco, e a interagire con i fan prendendo rose in regalo, e salutando tutto il pubblico.
Con “Sour” giungiamo al termine del concerto, durante il quale Jaehyeong scende dal palco per regalare le rose alle persone in prima fila. I ragazzi ricevono una bandiera italiana e la sventolano, per poi usarla per scattare una foto con il pubblico per fare gli ultimi saluti.
Q&A con i fan e foto di gruppo
Anche se il concerto si è concluso, la serata non è ancora finita per i fortunati che son riusciti ad acquistare i ricercatissimi biglietti VIP. I The Rose tornano sul palco per rispondere ad alcune domande di alcuni fan scelti casualmente.
Quale è la vostra più grande paura?
Jaehyeong: “Direi gli insetti, in particolare i ragni“.
Woosung: “Venire in Italia e non trovare i Black Roses!“.
Se poteste prendere una caratteristica che vi è piaciuta di tutti i concerti nei paesi in cui vi siete esibiti, cosa scegliereste per creare il vostro concerto ideale?
Woosung: “Riunirei i fan di tutti i paesi in un unico concerto.”.
Cosa direste a voi stessi di sette anni fa?
Woosung: “Sarebbe prima dei The Rose…”
Jaehyeong: “Segui il tuo flow, e fai il tifo per i The Rose.”
Dove vi vedete tra dieci anni?
Woosung: “Ancora qui, a fare concerti più grandi!”.
Il manager si intromette scherzosamente: “Sapete dove vi vedete tra 10 minuti? Foto di gruppo!” il Q&A così si conclude.
Tutti quanti vengono divisi in gruppi di dieci persone, salgono sul palco per fare la foto con la band, e infine ricevono una tessera VIP e un poster autografato dai The Rose.
Conclusioni
Sentire i brani in live è decisamente un’esperienza di un altro livello: la batteria, forte e decisa, e le voci impeccabili accompagnate dalle chitarre e il basso, creavano un miscuglio perfetto e armonioso. L’atmosfera era davvero coinvolgente, divertente e in diversi momenti emozionante e suggestivo. La band ha una grande presenza scenica, tale che credo necessiti di palchi ben più spaziosi. I fan erano visibilmente molto devoti ai The Rose, così come loro lo sono ai loro fan, ai quali non hanno esitato a ringraziare più volte del loro supporto.

Chi sono i The Rose
I The Rose sono un gruppo indie-rock di origine sud-coreana composta da quattro membri: Kim Woo-sung (voce, chitarra elettrica, leader), Park Do-joon (voce, tastiera, chitarra acustica), Lee Ha-joon (batteria,voce secondaria), and Lee Jae-hyeong (basso, voce secondaria). Il gruppo era inizialmente formato da tre membri; erano artisti di strada che pubblicavano anche cover su Youtube. In seguito all’aggiunta di Woo-sung, sono entrati nella J&Star Company nel 2016, per poi debuttare nel 2017 con il singolo “Sorry”, il quale dopo pochi mesi divenne la miglior canzone di Billboard e il video musicale guadagnò oltre 3 milioni di visualizzazioni. Dopo una pausa iniziata dal 2020, il gruppo si è riunito nel 2022 sotto l’etichetta Windfall e sono attualmente impegnati con il loro terzo tour mondiale “Heal Together World Tour”.

The fans in line, named “Black Roses“, come from all over Italy and Europe; Jessica, a fan in the queue, tells us that she left Ischia the day before, and after only two hours of sleep in the hotel, she lined up with her friends at 3:30 am to be able to earn the closest seat to the stage. She also tells us about how there was solidarity and mutual help between the people queing. Elena too, a university student, has been queuing in the freezing cold of Milan since 4:00 am. The closer the eagerly awaited moment approaches, the more the excitement is felt in the air; in front of the lines there are people with signs that are desperately looking for tickets on re-sale, already completely sold out.
The concert
The Heal Together Tour” is an important tour for the fans, as it marked the band’s reunion following their military hiatus. Consequently, the excitement and joy of the Black Roses is palpable even before the boys’ performance, so much so that they cheer the staff setting up the stage too!
It’s 20:40, The Rose walk on the stage, and take their positions amidst the cheers of the crowd. The stage setup is simple; in fact, the energy and grit of The Rose does not need to be filled by large scenographic elements during the performances. Behind them there is a screen from which videos and decorative images of roses are played.
The Rose begin the concert performing with “Definition Of Ugly Is“, which created a suggestive moment since the beginning, also thanks to the silences present between one verse and another during the song. The concert then continues with cheerful and dynamic songs, some of which are: “I don’t know you” and “Candy“; the audience dances, sings and goes wild waving their lightsticks. At the end of the performance of “Red” The Rose introduce themselves and greet the fans, saying how happy they are to be back in Milan for a second time.
After Loredana Bertè’s classic serenade “sei bellissimo” sung by the audience in chorus, then reciprocated by the boys with a “you’re beautiful“, Jaehyeong presents “See-Saw“: “I wrote this song at a time when I was very sad and heartbroken” a phrase that made many fans sad, and in response he reassures them “everything is ok. I was able to overcome that moment thanks to you and the members of the group. With this song I would like to thank you, and tell my story.” he says almost getting emotional.
The song is performed on a dark stage, the guys are illuminated by the spotlights, and the fans turn on their lightsticks and phone flashlights, the moment is really touching. The audience is silent but sing in unison only the lines: “Hello, it’s me, I’m here And you’re okay, don’t worry” by performing the fan-action to perfection, and then raising the banners with the words “let’s heal together”. All the concert’s initiatives were organized by The Rose’s Italian fanbase on Instagram @therose_italia, which created and announced the initiatives on their profile.
One of the most exciting moments was during “Yes“, the boys started dancing on stage, and interacting with the fans, taking roses as a gift, and waving to the whole audience.
With “Sour” we come to the end of the concert, during which Jaehyeong comes off the stage to give roses to the people in the front row. The boys receive an Italian flag and wave it, and then use it to take a picture with the public to say their last goodbyes.
The meet&greet: questions from the fans
Even if the concert is ended already, the evening is not over yet for the lucky ones who have managed to purchase the highly requested VIP tickets. The Rose return to the stage to answer a few questions from some randomly chosen fans.
What is your biggest fear?
Jaehyeong: “I would say insects, especially spiders.”
Woosung: “Coming to Italy and not finding any Black Rose!“.
If you could pick one feature you liked from all the concerts in the countries you’ve performed, what would you choose to create your ideal concert?
Woosung: “I would gather fans from all the countries in one concert”.
What would you tell to yourself from seven years ago?
Woosung: “That was before The Rose…”
Jaehyeong: “Follow your flow, and cheer for The Rose.”
The manager jokingly cuts in: “Do you know where you’ll see yourself in 10 minutes? Group photo!” the Q&A thus concludes.
All of them are divided into groups of ten, go on stage to take a photo with the band, and finally receive a VIP card and a poster autographed by The Rose.
Final thoughts
Hearing the songs live is definitely an experience of another level: the drums, strong and decisive, and the impeccable voices accompanied by the guitars and the bass, created a perfect and harmonious blend. The atmosphere was truly engaging, fun and at different times exciting and evocative. The band has a great stage presence, such that I think they need much more spacious stages. The fans were visibly very devoted to The Rose, and this is reciprocated by the band, which they have not hesitated to thank Black Roses many times for their support.

Who is The Rose?
The Rose is a South Korean indie-rock band consisting of four members: Kim Woo-sung (vocals, electric guitar, leader), Park Do-joon (vocals, keyboards, acoustic guitar), Lee Ha-joon (drums, backing vocals), and Lee Jae-hyeong (bass, backing vocals). The group initially consisted of three members; they were street artists who also published covers on Youtube. Following the addition of Woo-sung, they joined the J&Star Company in 2016, and then debuted in 2017 with the single “Sorry”, which after a few months became the best song on Billboard and the music video gained over 3 million views. After a hiatus that began in 2020, the group reunited in 2022 under the Windfall label and are currently busy with their third world tour “Heal Together World Tour”.
